The AUSXC Volunteer of the Year Awards were introduced in 2016, recognising volunteer efforts in the previous year. Without the countless hours of effort at all levels of the sport we’d have no events, no junior programs, no organised sport and much diminished skiing facilities. The awards are presented at the annual AUSXC Awards dinner in Canberra in April, with one award for each of the active cross country states, ACT, NSW and Victoria.
In addition, Peter Cunningham was recognised with a special Outstanding Service to Cross Country Skiing award for his efforts in leading the SSAXC Committee from 2003-2016, tireless work organising races at Perisher every year, and invaluable contributions to cross coutry skiing in the ACT.
In addition, the efforts over many years of Peter Ward were recognised through his being awarded the Order of Australia for his contribution to cross country skiing.
