2014 Australian Competition Rules

The SSA Cross Country Committee (SAXC) has recently updated the Australian Competition Rules for 2014. These rules have two components; General Rules, which relate to the organisation of competitions in Australia; and Competition Rules which are based on the FIS International Competition Rules (ICR) with some minor alteration for different levels of competition. The SAXC Competitions Rules are included here in PDF format, the ICR are available via the FIS website.

Any questions regarding the Australian Competition Rules should be directed to Finn Marsland, SSA Cross Country Skiing High Performance Manager, or to Andrew Walker, SAXC Technical Sub-Committee Chair.

Age Class Change for 2012

The Ski & Snowboard Australia Cross Country Commitee (SAXC)  wishes to advise of a change in age classes in the Australian Cross Country Skiing Competition Rules. These apply to Australian Championship events and are also recommended for all state and club events. The age class changes have already been adopted by a number of race organisers including  the Kangaroo Hoppet.

For 2012 and beyond all age classes will change by one year. Instead of the age being taken on December 31st of the previous year, age will be taken on December 31st of the current year. In addition, a new age category of U23 will replace the current U25 age class.

This means that juniors skiing in the U20 age class in 2012 must have been born in 1993 or 1994. Athletes born in 1992 will move into the U23 age class. A full summary of the age categories for 2012 and the rationale for the change is included in the following document.
