New AUSXC Award Categories and Nominations

As announced earlier this year, the inaugural AUSXC Awards Dinner will be held in Canberra on April 9, following the Australian Rollerski Championships and Level 0 Coach Course earlier that day. In addition to recognising the XC nominees for the SSA Awards, which will be held in Melbourne on April 28, four new XC award categories will be presented at the AUSXC Awards.

The traditional SSA Award categories that will be recognised at the AUSXC Awards are:

  • Athlete of the Year
  • Junior Athlete of the Year
  • Outstanding Achievement
  • Rising Star
  • Coach of the Year
  • Development Coach of the Year

The new categories are:

  • U23 XC Athlete of the Year
  • XC Young Achiever
  • Masters XC Skier of the Year
  • Volunteer of the Year

In this final category, three volunteers will be recognised, one each for NSW, ACT and Victoria. The nomination criteria for each of the awards, including the SSA awards, are posted here:

While the SSAXC Committee will consider all relevant athletes and coaches for all the athlete and coach awards without nominations needing to be submitted, nominations particularly for the Volunteer of the Year and Masters Skier of the Year are being sought from the state skiing organisations and can also be submitted from the general skiing community. Submissions should be emailed to finn.marsland@gmail.com by Wednesday March 30.

The AUSXC Awards Dinner will be held at The Clubhouse at Lakeview Gardens in Jerrabomberra. The evening will also feature images and footage from Australian Team athletes recently returned from overseas and from the 2015 Australian winter. Tickets are $30 for adults and $15 for kids, available via Trybooking.com up until Monday April 4.
