Phil Bellingham 81st after day one of the Tour de Ski

After stage one of the Tour de Ski Phillip Bellingham sits in 81st out of a field of 93. Phil is 55 seconds or 9% behind Tour leader Dario Cologna of Switzerland.

The first stage of this year’s Tour was a 4km individual start skate race held in Oberstorf in Germany. The winner of the stage was Dario Cologna from Switzerland who won two gold medals in last year’s Sochi Olympics and is a three time winner of the Tour de Ski.

This is Phil’s second year racing in the Tour de Ski and his highest finish in the opening stage. Last year Phil finished in 98th place out of 105 on day one but went on to finish in 69th and 70th out of a similar field on day two and three which were both sprint events. This year the first sprint event will be held on day three. The second stage will be a 15km classic race in which Phil will have to finish within a certain time to make it through to the third day.
