Ostersund FIS Team Sportia/Scandic Cup Sprint – Race Report

Anna Trnka finished 19th in the Team Sportia Cup in Ostersund whilst Alasdair Tutt finished 95th in the Scandic Cup after falling and breaking a pole. Trnka qualified in equal 20th in the 19-20 year age class. She was 17 seconds or around 10% behind the fastest female of the day, Canadian World Cup Sprinter Daria Gaiazova. Anna finished fourth in her quarter final out of six which moved her up to 19th. The time Anna raced in the quarter final was seven seconds faster than her qualifying time showing potential room for improvement over the coming weeks.

Alasadair Tutt was showing very promising form for most of the race, he was pacing the distance well and keeping relatively good time with those racing around him. Unfortunately he fell on the last downhill within sight of the finish.

Tomorrow Anna will race a 5km classic whilst Alasdair will race a 15km skate. Why the juniors do a classic race and the seniors a skate is an interesting question.
