Just a quick reminder that this Saturdays Kangroo Hoppet, Australian Birkebeiner and Joey Hoppet events are part of the Victorian Ski Chase. If you have entered any of these events and have not yet registered for the Victorian Ski Chase, you can register here http://tinyurl.com/victorianskichase to go into the draw to win a pair of Skikes, and if you are 25 years or under you could be in with a chance to win one of two $600 cash prizes. After the unfortunate cancellation of three of the Vic Ski Chase events due to insufficient snow, the competition is up and running again after the successful running of the Rocky Valley Rush. Many thanks to the team at Birkebeiner Nordic Ski Club who once again put on a great event in what was promising to be very challenging conditions. Somehow they managed to put together a race with a tail-wind for 90% of the course.

2013_AUS_Championship_Distance_Freestyle-UPDATEDThe 2013 Australian Open and Junior Championships finished up on the weekend at Perisher with the Classic Sprint and Distance Freestyle events. The weather held off until the finals of Saturday’s sprints, then it was a wild and woolly day for Sunday’s distance races. International skiers topped the podium in all events, with Victor Gustafsson from Sweden winning both the Sprint A-Final and the 10km Freestyle for the men, while on the women’s side USA cleaned up with Lauren Fritz in the Sprint and Jessica Yeaton in the 5km Freestyle. The distance races were shortened because of the wind and drifting snow on the tracks.
For the Australians Anna Trnka had a great weekend, winning both the junior and open category Australian titles on both days. Callum Watson was the first Australian in the Sprint and Alex Almoukov took the title in the 10km. Damon Morton won the junior sprint title, and Hamish Roberts the junior 10km. The Sprint time trial results and most of the Distance results are posted below in PDF format. There were some minor anomalies with the final Sprint results, and also the U12 and U14 categories in the Distance events are missing, and these will be posted later.
