A Level 2 Cross Country Skiing Coaching Course will be held this year on May 26/27 and June 30 / July 1. The first weekend will be at the AIS in Canberra, while the second weekend will be at Falls Creek. More information is available in the course flyer linked below:
The Level 2 Course is designed for coaches working at state or national level. The pre-requisite for the course is Level 1 accreditation. Interested applicants for the course should contact the course organisers via the contact information on the flyer.
The Australian Rollerski Championships were held this weekend April 14-15 in Canberra. Local athletes dominated the Open Men’s races, with Mark van der Ploeg from Phillip winning the 2.2km Classic Hill Climb and 15-year-old junior Hamish Roberts from Red Hill winning both the Sprint Freestyle and Mass Start Freestyle events at the Stromlo Forest Park. In the Open Women’s events two women from Mt Beauty in Victoria made a clean sweep; Belinda Phillips winning the Hill Climb, and 18-year-old junior skier Anna Trnka also making a double of the Freestyle events. The weekend of racing was sponsored by Snowgum Wodonga and was also a fundraiser for the Amelia McGuiness Foundation.

A Cross Country Skiing Coach Level 0 course will be held at Westefolds Park in Melbourne on May 12. The course is designed for coaches, teachers and parents working with athletes at interscool level and focusses on dryland preparation for the winter.
This Level 0 course is run by Victorian Squad coaches JC Legras and Allison Stoddart, with assistance from 2010 Winter Olympian Paul Murray and current National Team athlete Georgia Merritt. Training techniques covered include ski walking, ski bounding, ski specific strength and roller skiing. Participants will come away with the latest technical knowledge, skill development progressions and 3 easy to follow lesson plans to help engage and prepare athletes for when the snow starts falling.
